Br. Roger Mattal, OFH says, "I sense God is calling me into a deeper relationship with him through living a profound contemplative life...based upon combining Franciscan spirituality with Carmelite spirituality. I was professed November 1987....into the Third Order of Saint Francis Secular...and served as formation director for three years. I moved from Queens NY to Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania one year ago. I am happily married to Victoria Mattal for the last 12 years. Both my wife and I have turned our modest mobile home into our Hermitage. Since moving to Bloomsburg, I became a member of the Catholic Association of the Friends of The Carmel of Jesus Mary and Joseph... Elysburg, Pennsylvania... I have been profoundly affected by the depth and beauty of the way of life of these Carmelite nuns...My calling is to integrate Franciscan Spirituality with Carmelite Spirituality... Another aspect of my spirituality is that I am member of The Confraternity of Our Lady of Sorrows...and a member of The Confraternity of the Most Holy Rosary....also I have a strong calling to work toward Ecumenical Love and Sharing all our Brothers and Sisters that make up the Body of Christ....Sincerely Brother Roger...May God's Holy Angels of Love and Light Bless the Order of Franciscan Hermits...now and forever. Amen"
Br. Thomas Williams, OFH says, "I just celebrated 76 years of life along with 51 years of sobriety and 46 years as a Third Order Franciscan. My wife is a professed Third Order as well. We live in a rural area where there are no other Third Order members in our area. I recently met another Third Order member who lives 2 1/2 hrs from us who has joined The Franciscan Order of Hermits and says he has benefited for doing so. I would like to share with others who desire to live The Franciscan Spirituality."
Br. Greg Marshall, OFH says, "I am a member of St Peter-in-Chains RCC and Church of Our Saviour EC. I don’t how express where I am but a tweener’. I have been confirmed in both the ECUSA and RCC. I move back and forth between the two. There are things I wholehearted agree with, and things that make me cringe (in both). I do daily devotions, three times a day using Common Prayer a Liturgy for Ordinary Radicals. The EC that I attend runs a soup kitchen and food pantry. It has always been a blessing to volunteer there. I always carry a rosary in my pocket. I switch off wearing a Tau cross, St.Pio medal (my confirmation saint) and St Benedict medal. I have made a promise (vow) of simplicity. That includes wearing plain clothes from thrift stores, 2nd hand shops. I also am growing a beard. To some that may not be a big deal, but for me it is. I have always been arrogant about my appearance. I am 60 and looking to the future. I really would like dedicate my retirement years, as service to God. My faith walk is sincere and honest."
