"The biggest draw to St. Francis Home will be the personal care, Schwartz said. A group of committed volunteers and staff members will care for residents in a home-style facility.
St. Francis Home will have three beds, Schwartz said. Although it may not seem like much, Schwartz said the average stay for a resident would be 28 days. So they will bring comfort to 36 residents over the course of a year, Schwartz said. "Everyone is welcome and everyone will feel the love of a family in a home," Schwartz said" CLICK HERE for Full Article

"JOLIET – Back in 1969, Sister MaryAnn Jerkofsky graduated from Baylor Medical School in Texas with a doctorate in virology.
She was fascinated with viruses, the way they reproduce and how they function in a body. That fascination led her to seek her degree, but the road back then was not an easy one. In 1969, not many women sought a doctorate degree, and even fewer entered a male-dominated field of medicine and graduated from Baylor Medical School. “Most of my career, I have been the only woman,” Jerkofsky said. But Jerkofsky said as the years wore on, she noticed something that made her happy." CLICK HERE for Full Article CLICK HERE for Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate Website
"As the Franciscan community began to grow, education for women was never in doubt. To understand the Franciscan Sisters’ priority on education, it may be helpful to highlight some key historical markers.Minnesota became a state in 1858. The population was 9,000, which didn’t include the vast number of Native Americans who were not part of the census. Women received the right to vote in 1920. The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), meant to give women equal rights with men, was passed in 1923, but to this day never ratified by the required 38 states.
As the sisters considered requests to establish hospitals, homes for the aged and schools, education of the sisters was key. Sisters were sent far and wide for further education and training." CLICK HERE for Full Article CLICK HERE for the Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls Minnesota Website
"In the mid-1980s, Clare Van Lent was happily working as a Franciscan sister in Dubuque, Iowa, when a bothersome idea entered her head: Mississippi.
"You'd think I'd come to Mississippi?' she says, still a bit incredulous 30 years later. She traveled to the state and met with the bishop. They talked about the two Trappist monks in Noxubee County, who were ready to call it quits on their efforts to create a self-sustaining monastery on a 600-acre farm. The bishop offered little encouragement, but Van Lent thought she ought to have a look." CLICK HERE for Full Article
"This stately, brick building constructed in 1891 was the first convent, housing the sisters and “some 15 old folks, 35 orphans and a hospital wing that cared for an average of 35 patients.”The public knows it as Hurrle Hall, but it wasn’t called that until July 12, 1978, when it was renamed after Sister Teresa Hurrle, who came to the convent as a young girl in the summer of 1894 and became a nurse."
