"Born and raised in Savannah, GA Aug 2, 1948. Baptized and raised Lutheran. However, After 2 tours of duty in Vietnam I became atheist. Several years later while stationed in South Carolina my secretary invited me to this "meeting". Thinking it was an Amway mtg I agreed to go just to get her off my back. Come to find out it was a Catholic Charismatic prayer mtg! I accepted Jesus as my Lord. For 2 yrs I searched diligenty for a spiritual home. Frustrated nothing was working out for me I decided to go to Mass. As I walked through the door of the chapel on base, I audibly heard the words, "Welcome home!". I turned to see who it was, but no one was around. I knew then that I had found my forever home. Ever since being received into the church I have been a Eucharistic minister and a lay reader. Then a year later I was transferred. I met these Cursillista's in Okinawa, Japan; made my Cursillo Oct 6-9, 1979. After my 20 yr Navy career I applied to the Diocese of St. Augustine (Florida) to become a priest. I eventually went to seminary (minor) at St. John Vianney in Miami, FL. During my first yr at the Major seminary of St. Vincent de Paul, I withdrew for health reasons. While living in Jacksonville, FL I sought out the Lay Fransiscans and was professed in 1986. For personal reasons I have moved about the country and participated in various groups such as Centering Prayer and Ignation Spirituality groups. I now call Ithaca, NY my home. I attend St. Catherine of Siena parish where I serve as Sacristan, Lay Reader, Extraordinary Minister of Communion, therefore, and sing in our choir. In two weeks I begin to serve as Cantor. I read books by Dr. Scott Hahn, Peter Kreeft, G.K. Chesterton, James Martin, SJ, and St. Thomas Aquinas (Summa Theologica). Not to mention listen to spiritual cd/dvd's of Bro. J.M. Talbot, Matthew Kelly and the like. Naturally, I read Sacred Scripture; say my rosary and the Liturgy of the Hours. Peace, Bro. John"
