"The Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia celebrated their annual jubilee weekend this summer for sisters who were celebrating 50, 70 and 75 years of religious profession. More than 200 sisters and lay associates gathered in Our Lady of Angels Chapel in Aston, Pa. for a Mass. The 27 Franciscan women represent 1,478 years of service throughout the U.S. as well as in other countries."

"ALLEGANY, N.Y. — Bradford, Pa., native the Rev. Dominic Monti, OFM, a member of Holy Name Province, the largest community of Franciscan friars in the United States, is celebrating 50 years as a friar. Monti and 18 other Franciscan friars marking milestones were honored at a Mass on Wednesday in New York City, where he lived for nine years."

"Back in June of 1615, four Franciscan priests arrived in New France. They had been invited by Samuel de Champlain in order to evangelize native peoples, explained Brother Marc Le Goanvec, provincial superior of the Franciscans. Two of the four priests — Friar Denys Jamet and Friar Joseph Le Caron — headed west with de Champlain to a land that would not become Montreal for another 27 years, explained Le Goanvec.He went on to say that he was proud of these men, who left France behind and crossed the ocean to a land they new nothing about. "It has been something of an adventure for Sister Sarah Jordan who experienced some of the toughest conditions while working in South Africa.Sarah spent a life of giving to others but the 60 sisters in the Franciscan Order in Ballinasloe rallied round to give her a very special 100th birthday.

"After 16 years as pastor at Holy Assumption Parish in South Superior, as well as some combined services with St. William Church near Pattison Park, Fr. Ronald Olson will be retiring from active ministry on Sunday. A special mass that Pentecost Sunday for Fr. Ron will be celebrated at 4 p.m., followed by dinner in the parish hall.
Olson is a native of Superior. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1950 and then entered the Franciscan Order. He was ordained at the Cathedral in St. Paul in 1958. He has been a member of the Franciscan Order for more than 60 years and a priest for some 56 years. He had hoped to become a missionary in Latin America or Africa, but his superiors had other plans." Sister Janice has 60 years of service, and Sister Mary Matthew has 25 years.The Catholic Church marks anniversaries of service, and these three women all reached levels that warrant recognition on the same year.
